Elise says:

"I miss everyone like crazy. I'm working on big important stuff. And have successfully explained to staff that having a working hip on the right side for the first time in 43 years means that my hesitancy with some of the PT is not fear of pain, but because I don't want to break it."

in other news:
- PT is focusing on the stuff she's having the most trouble with, right now (getting in and out of bed, in particular, which is still harder for her than the actual walking is.

- She had a good conversation yesterday with the social worker and the nurse coordinator, to help explain the 'back to normal function' thing does not so much apply to her (because she's been working with adaptations for 43 years, after all.) They've set some goals on when she can go home, and it looks like that will be sometime around August 1st to 3rd.

I'm so glad communication is happening to help the healing process.

Please tell Elise that we miss her like crazy, and we want her to take her time and heal as many aspects as possible rather than hurrying back.

This is good news. The PTs can understand this kind of thing, and design therapy to deal with it. I hope Elise can go home soon.

Oh, most excellent communication and mutual understanding.

Good luck with the getting in and out of bed, and for projected dates of going-home-ness, and all my best wishes for healing.

Isn't it fab when years of difficult stuff turns into good stuff? Elise has had years of learning to be really clear about things she needs viz health issues. And because she is so articulate about them, this really fits into her pt goals. Hurrah!

I'm enormously happy that things are progressing well! I'm very happy to hear Elise is working on Big Important Stuff, too. Here's to the new normal, may it arrive sooner than expected!

The local UU chuch that both Elise and I have worked though (First Universalist - where Mike Ford had his memorial) runs a email list. Elise has posted there at times.

I asked Sue, who posts about people would like local responses (hospitalizations, adoptions, other such) if she would be interested in putting a note in for Elise.

She agreed, but ony if Elise approves.

I've previously sent cards to some of the addresses, and sometimes people show up.

However, is Lioness willing to be posted as such?

Thanks and I"ll get back to reading the postings

I should mention that I am taking PT through the Sister Kenny pool (independent PT - at about $4/hour while the therapists watch.) I had pulmonary embolisms after surgery last September, and after five weeks in the hospital/in house rehab, and six weeks on at-home care, I have a lot of empathy for the struggles I know are taking place.

I finally stopped personal PT with a therapist last month, but as I said above am still continuing in the pool. While my range of motion has been recovered, I don't have the strength or energy I want and need.

On a really personal side, I did lose between 40 and 50 pounds last year - with help from this. I've kept it off so far, but I'm going to have work on some other stress resolution than eating chocolate!

My thoughts and wishes are with you Lioness. Joyce
